Train Your Dog With These Great Tips

Dog training may be intimidating for first time pet owners. It can easily lead to an overload of information since so many resources exist on the subject. Use the following tips to train your dog.

You can use a few tricks when crate training your dog or puppy. If the dog doesn’t want to go inside the crate, put a rawhide bone in there and shut the door. They can see and smell that bone, and they will want in the crate to have it. When your dog goes inside, give him plenty of praise, and let him know he is doing a good job.

Make sure that your dog stays in a relaxed area. It is great to have playtime with your pet, but your dog should stay calm when you come into the room. Don’t acknowledge them when you enter so that you can ensure a controlled environment for how and when playtime starts.

When crate training a young puppy you must be consistent. Shortly after you allow your puppy to exit the crate, he must be given the chance to relieve himself in the designated area. When done with consistency, your dog will trust you and wait for the right time to relieve himself.

Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. It is possible for the chains to become intertwined, and the animals can be hurt as they try to get free. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

To keep your dog compliant with his training, be sure to continue the process well after he has performed the way that you have hoped. It is easy to feel that once your dog’s training is over, the lessons are learned and will stay with the dog forever. But dogs can become complacent just like their human counterparts. For this reason, you need to reinforce what your dog has learned in training or better still, teach him a new trick every now and then.

Mastering the “leave it” directive is an excellent starting point for your training sessions. This command instructs the dog to release an object and then retreat from it. You can use this command for a number of purposes. For example, it is used to prevent the dog from chewing on something or even to guide them out of harm’s way.

When training your dog, make it fun for the both of you. Try and develop a bond with your dog by playing with him, it will only encourage the dog to want to please you more during training. Training can be pretty fun, but make sure you get plenty of non-training play in too.

These training tips are applicable to many situations. Remember these tips as a guide to helping you train your dog, so both you and your dog will be very happy.
